Foundation

VN Karazin Kharkiv National University is one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe. It was established in 1804 by the director V.N. Karazin and Tsar Alexander I. The university is the only institution in Ukraine to have trained and employed three Nobel laureates: the biologist I. Mechnikov, economist S. Kuznets and physicist L. Lando. At times prominent scholars and public figures from several countries, including J.W. Goethe and A. Humboldt, i. Franco and L. Tolstoy, P. Semenov-Tyanshansky, and others. The first President of Ukraine, Mykhailo Hrushevsky, received the degree of Doctor Honorary Kosa from Kharkiv University. Kharkiv University is associated with the first Ukrainian newspapers and magazines and the first scientific societies. In 2003, according to the decree of the President of Ukraine, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University has the highest status of an autonomous (autonomous) state university.



Location

The university is located in Kharkiv. University activities have made the city of Kharkiv an important industrial, scientific and cultural center. Many streets in Kharkiv are named after university professors, researchers, and alumni.


Undergraduate and graduate students

Since its inception, the university has received doctorates from more than 130,000 students. The names of graduates are stored in geographical names, names of space objects, plants and minerals, laws, and formulas. About 60 college graduates became academicians and related members of the National Academy of Sciences (UNAS). The university has about 12,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and about 400 postgraduate students. The university employs more than 1,500 teaching and scientific staff, including over 200 doctors, professors, and about 800 doctors. About 30% of the university's annual enrollment are school medalists, and another 10% are winners of the third and fourth rounds of educational competitions for high school students in Ukraine.


Science at university

Today Kharkiv National Medical University admission has 21 schools: School of Biology, School of Physics and Technology, School of Radio Physics, School of Physics, School of Computer Science, School of Philosophy, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Geology and Geography, School of Economics, School, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Faculty of History, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Basic Medicine, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Sociology, Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Law, International Economic Relations and Tourism, Faculty of Continuing Education Faculty and retraining for Physics and Energy, and Faculty. The university is one of the largest research centers in Ukraine. It covers all areas of modern basic research and includes research institutes for chemistry, biology, and astronomy, institutes of physics and engineering, and institutes of high technology.


Scientific and scientific staff

The faculties of the university include 21 Scientific and Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and Special Academies of Ukraine and 50 state laureates. The university has about 20 world-renowned science faculties conducting intensive research, 5 special examination boards, and 11 senior doctoral examination boards. University researchers publish 60 to 65 monographs, research guides, more than 2,000 articles and abstracts each year, and regularly host a number of international conferences.
