Vinnitsa National Medical University was established in 1921, and in the year 1960 the university was named in honor of M.I.Pirogov. In 1994 it was announced that the Vinnytsya Medical Institute was certified and accredited to the level IV of accreditation, the highest accreditation level granted from the Ministry of Health and Education, Ukraine. In 2002, the institution was granted the status of a national university. It was then officially changed to National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsya.
Vinnitsa Medical College has been educating skilled doctors for more than 90 years. In that time, about forty thousand doctors have been educated and are employed in Ukraine as well as across the world.
Since the year 1961, Vinnytsia National Pirogov Memorial Medical University has been providing training to foreign nationals. Presently, the medical school is training 6250 students, which includes 2080 foreigners. The total number of students is 44000 doctors are trained, including 2100 specialists at the highest quality, comprising more than 7500 citizens from 106 different countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, etc have been taught.
Vinnytsia National Medical University is home to an exceptionally competent academic staff with academic titles and degrees. Students are taught by 126 doctor of science and 677 students of sciences. There are 25 Honoured Scientists and Technicians of Ukraine, Honoured Workers of Higher Education and Education of Ukraine, 3 Academicians of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 12 Honoured Doctors of Ukraine, and 5 Winners of the State Prize of Ukraine.
The University houses 12 scientific faculties and provides collaborative and creative cooperation with faculties of medicine from universities from 19 nations (including those from the USA, Germany, France, England, Russia, etc.)
The MBBS course for MBBS students at Vinnytsia National Medical University is 6 years. The language used for teaching is English, Ukrainian and Russian.
Vinnitsa Medical School has close ties with the clinical departments of 28 pharmaceutical companies. Faculty members of the departments are part of the development of 62 international research projects.
The University covers an area covering 80,896 sq. meters. On which are:

Scientific research centre and test clinics
The departments for clinical care within Vinnitsa National Medical University organize the training of all specialties at the base departmental specialized units and centre that are part of 24 medical institutions in Vinnitsia, Khmelnitsky and Zhitomir with bed funding of approximately 7736.
