The Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (TSNU) is now an outstanding university with a distinguished research profile and the leading contemporary academic and educational center in Ukraine.
With the rise of the independent Ukrainian nation, the university faces new challenges and tasks. Academicians of the future will be distinguished by deep specialist knowledge and the ability to think creatively, understanding the enormous responsibility that is assumed when working at the forefront of scientific thinking. Only a university with a long tradition of achievements and breakthroughs in teaching and research can do justice to such a mandate. On April 21, 1994, President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk granted "national" status to Kyiv University by Decree No. 176/94, and on November 25, 1999, another Decree No. 1496/99 by then-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma. The autonomous status of the university has expanded significantly. Decree No. 412/2008 of the then President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko of May 5, 2008 also provided the university's transformation into the primary educational and scientific center in Ukraine for the training of academic and teaching staff with higher degrees. On July 29, 2009 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine granted the university the status of an autonomous and autonomous national research university by Decree No. 795, providing further funding for the university's future development.
