ABOUT TARAS SHEVCHENKO NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF KYIV

Known as KNU, the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev was founded in 1834 in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev.


It is the third oldest university in the country and, although it was founded as the Imperial University of St. Vladimir in Kiev, it was renamed in 1939 in honor of Taras Shevchenko, a Ukrainian poet and politician who was known for modern Ukrainian literature.





Most of the buildings of KNU University are located in the center of Kiev. The Red University building is the main building of the university and is also a recognized national symbol of the Ukrainian higher education system. The building has a large enclosed courtyard and the A.V. University. The Fomin Botanical Garden is one of the tallest greenhouses in the world.


Other notable buildings include the Yellow Building, which houses the KNU Department of Humanities, and the Maximovich Library, the largest research library in the country. There is also an astronomical observatory at the Taras Shevchenko National University in Kyiv, which was founded in 1845.


The university consists of 13 faculties, eight institutes, a research center, and two universities. It has bilateral cooperation agreements with around 230 academic and scientific institutions around the world, as well as cooperation agreements with over 400 different universities.
